An Antipodean Dream

Picture

Through the shifting and sparkling light of the trees appears a photographer from early last century. His head hidden under a dark cloth, He sits  a large camera on a wooden tripod partially immersed in mud. The girls stand patiently in the cold river water. In the viewfinder of the camera the girls are upside down and their reflections in the river water appear right way up. Their ghost-like, haunted expressions are overlaid by the grid of a map depicting some of the first 'land allocations' along the Swan River.

Public Art Commissions

Picture
Warm Work - Swan Valley Grape Pickers, measures five feet by eight feet. The oil painting took six months to complete. A public art commission. Look out for painting in the foyer at Midland Hospital, St. John Healthcare. Depicts the work of  grape pickers in the early twentieth century; many of them recent European arrivals fleeing war, where they sought to start life anew in the Swan Valley.
